Toward Sustainable and Cost?Effective CO 2 Conversion Processes to Propylene Carbonate Based on Ionic Liquids

چکیده
The use of ionic liquids (ILs) for CO2 capture and utilization into a valuable product is attracting interest even though literature evaluating their sustainability scarce. A liquid–liquid extraction (LLE)-based separation recently proposed as an alternative to the high energy-consuming distillation-based reference approach produce propylene carbonate (PC). In this work, environmental impacts associated two LLE-based approaches PC are evaluated by means process modeling life cycle impact assessment tools. Simulations prove that tuning operating variables in terms benefits also improves cost-effectiveness process. addition, processes nearly not altered IL selection when effective recovery designed. emissions vary between 0.12 0.22 kg equiv. per kgPC, while operational costs range from 3 8 $ tPC. water-mediated imposes best environmental, capital expenditures, expenses performance.

Mixtures of protic ionic liquids and propylene carbonate as advanced electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries.
In this study we investigated the chemical-physical properties of mixtures containing the protic ionic liquid (PIL) N-butyl-pyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (PYRH4TFSI), propylene carbonate (PC) and lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) in view of their use as electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). We showed that these electrolytic solutions might display c...
متن کاملIonic Liquids in Green Carbonate Synthesis
Ionic liquids (ILs), made of relatively large organic cations and inorganic anions, could contribute as solvents and catalysts to green organic synthetic reactions [1-5]. The reaction systems using no organic solvents, dense phase carbon dioxide (supercritical and carbon dioxide-dissolved expanded liquid phases), and/or water are obviously advantageous from environmental viewpoints [1]. ILs wou...
متن کاملSynthesis of glycerol carbonate from glycerol and dimethyl carbonate in basic ionic liquids*
Glycerol carbonate is a key multifunctional compound used as solvent, additive, and building block in alternative chlorine-free processes. Here, we report the synthesis of glycerol carbonate from renewable materials (glycerol and dimethyl carbonate, DMC) using basic ionic liquids (ILs) as catalysts. After process optimization, it has been possible to isolate pure glycerol carbonate in quantitat...
